Help us make an impact on a global level

Qalam has received essays from across the globe, particularly for college applications. Students often lack any services at their schools or reliable peers and instead rely on anonymous or costly online services.

As a volunteer, you serve as a safe, reliable peer-reviewer for students that may not otherwise have these resources at their disposal.

25+ Countries
Submissions from abroad to Qalam

How we assign volunteers
and what essays you proofread.

We ensure the complete and total privacy and confidentiality of writing(s) submitted in each of the three application processes that we handle.

As a medical student, you'll be matched only to students that are submitting essays required for the entrance into medical school. If you'd like to participate in the proofreading of college essays, you may request to do so.

As of December 2021, due to the high load of submissions with our limited number of medical student editors, we have limited the submissions you'd be looking at to simply personal statements and no other part of the AMCAS. AACOMAS, or TMDSAS medical school applications.

As an undergraduate student participating with Qalam, you are limited as an editor to only the submissions that are offered by students that are applying to a high school within the United States.

Typically, we receive submissions from students on a global scale. Due to a severe lack of college preparatory services in many places around the United States and especially abroad, it is imperative that editors at Qalam do their best to assist these applicants in their pursuit of a college or university.

Currently, Qalam allows for submissions of supplemental essays so that editors may take a look. If any editors are interested, they may also pursue training to become a Common App essay consultant for our live service via Zoom.

As a law student, you'll be matched only to students that are submitting essays required for the entrance into law school. If you'd like to participate in the proofreading of college essays, you may request to do so.

Currently, Qalam allows for submissions of other  essays (diversity essays, addendums, etc.) critical to the law school application so that editors may take a look. If any editors are interested, they may also pursue training to become a law school essay consultant for our live service via Zoom.
